2025 iGiveCatholic Initiative for Our Queen of Peace Church
November29,2024
The 2025 iGiveCatholic Initiative for Our Queen of Peace Church is raising funds for the Restoration of the Walls Behind the Two Side Altars.
For the last four years, the plaster and paint damage behind the two side Altars has become increasingly an eyesore. More than a year ago, the brickwork on the four exterior corners of the Church were vented and re-pointed. Presently, the interior structure is being checked for any continued leakage. When we asked the painters/plasters for an estimate for repair and repainting eighteen months ago, the estimate wasslightly more than $60,000! We will update you regarding the finding of the interior structural inspection when we get it.
Details Regarding This Next Project for our Church (from the Nov. 24 Parish Bulletin):
"Questions are being asked regarding the plaster/painting project behind the 2 Side Altars, which deserve to be answered. As regards the plaster work, sections of the arches have deteriorated since the problem was first recognized and you can, without much persistence, push your finger into the plaster which has “foamed” and weakened. Some small sections will need to be removed completely then re- plastered. Also, because the paint will be impossible to match at 100% accuracy, the walls behind as well as the side wall extending out to the Rail will have to be repainted as well. It oes without saying that these problems stem from small leaks. Please recall that within the last 18 months, the four exterior corners of the roof were repointed in order to stop the leakage. Soon, there will be a roofing company exploring the rafters to make certain the seepage issue has been resolved and that the plaster is dry and we will be ready to proceed.
