"After Easter, the disciples come to know Jesus in the breaking of the bread. He is present among His followers as He was prior to His death and resurrection, but now; He is present in a new way. Of course, as Catholics, we see this clearly in the Eucharist, when we take bread, bless it, break it, and give it. The Bread broken is Christ Himself. He is our nourishment both spiritually and physically, metaphorically and actually. When we participate in the Eucharist, we call to mind His passion, death, and resurrection. We consume Him Who is the Bread of Life." ---- "Living Liturgy," Third Sunday of Easter 2020
In Sunday’s Gospel, as we hear the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we also come to know that our daily reaching out to our neighbor is our daily walk with the Risen Christ, we recognize Him in others. +++ This month, through your generous gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought the love and care of Jesus to the less fortunate in the form of food and helping with their utility and rent bills. God Bless You.

"The world was in the midst of the Great Depression in 1931 and the memories of WW1 were still very much alive in the minds of Europeans when in Poland a Sister of the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938), is said to have been personally visited by Jesus..." "Sing now in Gladness, gone, is all sadness. Christ the Lord is risen!" ++++++ Many the times I have told you that St. Benedict admonishes his monks that their lives are to be a perpetual LENT. And so, we find ourselves in what will be for the vast majority of us, a seemingly interminable Lent. ++++++ Denied the Sacraments (but in extremis) you have been called to surrender seemingly everything. With St. Peter you say, “Lord, we have given up everything...what shall be our return?” [Please click on the above title link to read further.]

Lord Jesus, Hear our pleas, our Good Shepherd and Divine Physician. We implore Your Mercy in the wake of an outbreak of serious illness and disease. Guide our efforts to prevent contagion and make preparations to care for those most vulnerable. Assist all professionals and volunteers who work to eradicate the epidemic now spreading. May our actions be marked by Your steadfast love and selfless service and never by panic or fear. Bestow Your comfort and healing to the sick, sustain and strengthen them by Your Grace. May they know Your closeness as they carry the cross of illness. And may all the faithfully departed who have been called from this life come to worship You eternally with all the Saints as You grant consolation and peace to those who morn them. Amen.
