A New Marian Vestment From generous gifts given to Father Ananias for his 25th Jubilee of Ordination, these new Marian vestments and sacred Mass articles have been acquired.
"A thousand years ago when I had been newly ordained a priest, a wonderful old Lithuanian woman, Domitilla (Tilly) Stonavicieue, told me to have a Chasuble made in honor or the Blessed Mother but, specifically a Lithuanian Blessed Mother. That could have been under a number of different titles: Our Lady of Siluva, Our Lady of Pažaislis, or Our Lady of the Dawn Gate. It has take 27 years, but mission accomplished. Sadly, Tilly is long dead and wont' see it in use.
The Mother of God of the Gate of Dawn is famous throughout Europe though little known to Americans unless they are of Lithuanian ancestry or devotees of St. Faustina and the Divine Mercy.
A copy of the icon, Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn, photograph by Krzysztof Mizera, shown in this album, was given to me by Sister Angela Marie of the Order of the Sister Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus when she returned from a European Pilgrimage last year. It was disassembled and cut apart so that the image and various other pieces of the metal work could be employed in fashioning this one-of-a-kind vestment that is truly altarworthy.
These Sacred Liturgical pieces of Art, chasuble, stole, maniple, burse, and chalice veil were crafted by Emily Uhl and her studio in Washington State. She is, by the way, the same craftswoman who is still working to complete the Silver Jubilee vestment which so many of you contributed towards 2 years ago. Hopefully, that vestment will be ready for Sacred use soon as well." --Father Ananias, O.S.B.
